Ritratto, in ovale, del celebre cartografo Gerard Mercator (1512-1594).Probabilmente è una copia di un'incisione attribuita a Hendrik Goltzius o a Frans Hogenberg. Il ritratto è uno dei numerosi realizzati per i due volumi di Isaac Bullerts "Académie des Sciences et Arts contenant les vies et éloges his. des hommes illustres qui ony excellé en ces professions depuis environ quatre siècles", editi a Brussles nel 1682 da François Foppens.Molti dei ritratti furono incisi da Nicolas de Larmessin I (1638-1694) e/o II (ca. 1645 - 1725).Alcune lastre furono anche utilizzate per stampe separate dal volume, che si distinguono per il verso bianco, come nel caso del presente esemplare.Bulino, rifilato alla linea marginale, in ottimo stato di conservazione.
