Name/date and where purchased on front end paper. No other marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. Clean slightly tanned tight pages with dull bevelled-edge unmarked boards, clear gilt lettering to front and spine, well rubbed spine ends, tiny piece missing at top of spine, minor rubbing to upper front corner and to top of tanned page edges and no bumping to corners. 140pp. The philosophy of Thomas Carlyle, 19th century Scottish essayist, humourist and philosopher. .
