La sociologia, in quanto scienza critica e attenta alle dinamiche relazionali, è fondamentale per comprendere come esse ridefiniscono i processi di mediazione, gatekeeping e produzione, le pratiche di distribuzione e consumo di informazione, i rapporti di potere tra gli attori, inclusi quelli tecnologici, in termini di autonomia, negoziazioni e pratiche di resistenza. Il volume esamina i contributi di una prospettiva sociologica allo studio delle piattaforme digitali nel giornalismo, senza tradire la vocazione multidisciplinare dei Journalism Studies, ma valorizzandola. A partire da una mappatura e sistematizzazione di un’ampia letteratura scientifica su piattaforme digitali, algoritmi e intelligenza artificiale, analizza le strategie di editori e testate giornalistiche per costruire la propria presenza sulle piattaforme e bilanciarne il potere, considerando anche quegli attori periferici che provano a intercettare le nuove esperienze mediali dei pubblici.
