THE FIRST DRAFT OF ROUAULT'S POETIC ASSESSMENT OF RENOIR, written shortly after Renoir's death. Autograph manuscript on seven sheets of thin wove writing paper (rectos only), neatly written in ink with countless corrections (often entire paragraphs crossed out)--but the eliminated text remains perfectly legible! 27 x 21.5 cm. By the time Rouault published it in "Souvenirs intimes" (1926-1927), this text had undergone radical changes--and yet some of the original phrases remain. In excellent condition.
