The Prix de Rome is the oldest prize for artists up to the age of 35 living in the Netherlands. In 2005 the Prix is entering a new phase as Prixderome.nl and the prize money has been increased. PRIXDEROME.NL Visual Arts will be held once every two years and is open to artists working in all areas; the original division into disciplines no longer applies. PRIXDEROME.NL Architecture is to be held once every four years. 2005 is the year of the visual arts. First there is a preliminary round in which hundreds of artists and architects submit documentation or originals of their work. The jury selects ten to twelve artists for the longlist. The jury then selects a maximum of four candidates (the shortlist) for the final round. After a three-month working period, the nominees present their final pieces in an exhibition. PRIXDEROME.NL 2005 was won by Lonnie van Brummelen (Soest, 1969). During the exhibition she presented a new film, Grossraum, and a publication chronicling the arduous approval procedures that needed getting through to make the film. — Testi: Pontzen Rutger.
