La prima parte presenta una breve storia della lingua greca, dalle origini indoeuropee ai giorni nostri, con una prevalente focalizzazione sulla fase antica, sui dialetti greci e sulle lingue letterarie greche (da quella epica alla koine). La seconda parte illustra, con un taglio il più possibile didattico, la fonetica greca, la cui conoscenza è propedeutica allo studio diacronico della morfologia.
