Dust jacket not price clipped or torn with very minor creasing to edges and sunned spine. 350pp. As the authors state 'this is an impertinent book' but a required one if we are to further the discussion of how our universities are to resist becoming a monolithic system. How can the competing claims of national interest and professional elan be reconciled ? What kind of system do we need and how should we fund it ? What kind of research do we want and at what price ? Will it mean the surrender of academic research ? A scarce book.
