Sono le domande metafisiche, quelle che generalmente restano implicite, ma che presto o tardi ci sfiorano. Lasciarle inevase significa rimanere sulla superficie dell’esistenza. Per arrivare a confrontarci con queste domande che vengono prima, occorre passare attraverso altri quesiti che sono propri dell’ontologia e che costituiscono la parte iniziale di questo libro: diamo infatti per scontato che quelle cose, di cui cerchiamo il senso, ci siano, trovandoci di fronte alla difficoltà di riconoscerci come parte di quella stessa realtà, poiché avvertiamo una differenza circa il modo della nostra esistenza. Interrogarsi sulle cose vuol dire avere la possibilità di parlarne, ma cosa garantisce questa operazione per mezzo della quale nominiamo le cose e ci riferiamo ad esse? Si tratta evidentemente di un itinerario che ci coinvolge, spingendoci in quelle profondità che spesso sono terre aride in cui ci può capitare sì di ritrovarci da soli, ma dopo essere diventati più autentici.
