Illustrated throughout with a great number of copperplate engravings, maps and charts, an engraved portrait frontispiece of the author, folding map of the world on Mercator's projection (tear at lower folds), 34 engraved plates (including two folding), folding chart titled 'Comparative Table of the probabilities of Life in New England and Europe' to Vol. 19, table of latitude and longitude around the world to Vol. 10, additional advertisements and index to Vols. 10 and 20, comtmporary manuscript note at the head of the title pages in Vols. 1 and 2. 8vo, 5.5" x 3.5", contemporary full polished tree calf, the spine with gilt rules dividing the compartments, two red morocco lettering and numbering labels to each volume, now housed in four cloth covered open ended protective slipcases. An excellent set of the rare first edition complete. Light evidence of use or age as to be expected. Very well preserved, minimal restoration, the bindings sound and complete, strong and tight, the hinges all in good order. Some occasional mellowing, browning or aging to the paper due to its content. The plates and maps generally in very good order with some mellowing or aging. A handsome and pleasing set of this accomplished work.
