Gli autori propongono un cambiamento di paradigma rispetto alla tradizione psichiatrica e psicometrica incentrata sull’identificazione dei deficit, dell’entità dei ritardi evolutivi, delle atipie comportamentali. La valutazione descritta nel testo, infatti, è finalizzata a scoprire la diversità individuale e i processi che possono sostenere lo sviluppo, ricostruendo la storia evolutiva dei bambini e il ruolo che in essa hanno le relazioni di attaccamento, e individuando i domini, i contesti, le emozioni che possono più facilmente promuovere l’apprendimento attraverso un coinvolgimento attivo nell’esperienza e un rafforzamento delle funzioni cognitive superiori.
