Spine with five raised, gilt-lined bands; rich gilt compartments with floral vignettes and corner-pieces. Marbled endpapers. Edges speckled red. = The first work ever written on water, and all of its aspects and properties. One may call it a biography of water. Written by the German classical scholar and bibliographer Johann Albert Fabricius (1668-1736). This is the second edition (first: 1741) of his only work on water and its importance. On the front pastedown a mineralogical bookplate of the French mineralogist and professor at the École des Mines, Claude Jean Guy Guillemin (1923-1994), who was a co-founder of the International Mineralogical Association. Light age-wear, otherwise very good.
