Descrizione

Umschlag leicht berieben, sonst gutes Exemplar. - This book is the culmination of many years of research into the history of the 'toy' and the 'model' soldier from ancient times to the present. Recording the name of every known maker, designer and manufacturer in every country and century, the Encyclopedia gives details of dates of production and place of work, together with critical assessments of each maker's significance and influence. The literature of the model soldier is extensive, but the majority of books previously published deal with specific aspects of the hobby. Here, for the first time, the collecting habits of every country are discussed, and reviews given not only of those models both 'round' and 'flat' made in the traditional metal, but also in clay, porcelain, aluminium, carved wood, paper and cardboard, plastic, polystyrene, plaster, papier mstamped and pressed tin, composition, and cast iron, and in the latest media such as fibreglass resin. There are references to makers of dioramas and diorama accessories, non-military subjects, professional painters, forgeries and piracies, home-castings, manufacturers of mass-produced 'toys', sculptors of prestigious masterpieces, conversions, societies, chessmen, automata, evolutions, armored fighting vehicles, the wargame and many other subjects. The book is arranged alphabetically, and is provided with a thematic index so that the reader may easily trace any maker of models in any medium. There is the most extensive bibliography ever published, and an exhaustive list of the likely (and often unlikely] places where models are on permanent display. (Klappentext). ISBN 9780879511296
