Splendid set of Hammerton's monumental pictorial history of WWII. It was published throughout the conflict in 255 parts (varying from weekly to fortnightly), and subsequently issued in bound volumes: either burgundy pictorial cloth or navy half roan (as here). It is also found in later, plain or home-made bindings. COMPLETE SETS IN THE ORIGINAL BINDINGS ARE SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION. The set comprises Vol. 1: (parts 1-20); Vol. 2: (parts 21-44); Vol. 3: (parts 45-70); Vol. 4: (parts 71-100); Vol. 5: (parts 101-130); Vol. 6: (parts 131-155); Vol. 7: (parts 156-180); Vol. 8: (parts 181-205); Vol. 9: (parts 206-230); Vol. 10: (parts 231-255). Each volume has its own detailed and comprehensive index; the final volume contains an illuminated family ROH intended for completion by the purchaser (blank in this set).
