About the Book: - The text of the book has been painstakingly prepared by author to draw a sketch of the natural history and habits of the reputedly most power member of the cat tribe. This work is not merely as zoological description but is also an account of its habits, mode of life and as well as of his death. The book was first published in 1875. The subject of the book is extensive study of the Royal Bengal Tiger in Sunderbans which is a mangrove area in the delta formed by the confluence of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna Rivers in the Bay of Bengal. The endangered species that live within the Sundarbans and extinct species that used to be include the royal Bengal tigers, estuarine crocodile, northern river terrapins (Batagur baska), olive ridley sea turtles, Gangetic dolphin, ground turtles, hawksbill sea turtles and king crabs (horse shoe). The subject of the book is very good. There is no statement in the book to which exception may justly be taken. The author has preserved the illustrations from oblivion to generate good amount of interest amongst the readers.
