About The Book: The Indian Mutiny of 1857, also known as the Sepoy Rebellion, was a major uprising against British rule in India. It began with a revolt by Indian soldiers (sepoys) in the British East India Company’s army, sparked by grievances over issues like the use of animal fat in rifle cartridges, which offended Hindu and Muslim religious beliefs. The mutiny spread across northern and central India, with significant uprisings in cities like Delhi, Kanpur, and Lucknow. Although it was eventually suppressed, the rebellion led to the dissolution of the East India Company and the direct control of India by the British Crown.
