The book is a collection of selected essys on lanbour and technology puhlished in a number of journals since more than a decade. The book aims at exploring the creative and destructive role of technology for employment and displacement of labour. Producton of commodities is taken as the domain that gives and mantransformed resources are tha means by which technology is expressed. Technological progress leads to changing skill requirement, which offers the scope for additional labour employment. On the other hand, obsolescence of technology leads to redudancy and exit of presently employe labour. These and relatred issues revolving around commodity production., technology and labour., especially the relationship between them, are the focus of this book. The common thread running through the essays is that technology is both the cause and consquence of labour absorption and labour displacement.
