Title-page in red and black, illustrated with an impressive allegorical frontispiece displaying a personified Mathesis standing triumphantly above regret, ignorance, difficulty and contempt. Also with 60 engraved plates, many of which are folding, displaying concepts, tools and techniques in the geometric and other related sciences, and with many more woodcut diagrams within the text. 8vo, in full contemporary vellum over stiff boards, the spine labeled in manuscript. [21ff], 514 pp. A handsome copy in fully original state, the first few leaves only with faint evidence of long-ago dampness, the front endpapers with extensive scholarly notes in an early hand.
