Descrizione
An astonishing unpublished signed autograph manuscript by Georges Rouault, the rough draft of a letter to Roger Lacourière (1892-1967), a close friend who printed and published many of Rouault's prints and illustrated books. About 150 words in ink on recto of a single sheet fine wove stationery (19.3 x 13.4 cm). Rouault apparently wrote this as a note upon which to base a letter to Lacourière, although I have no idea of whether he actually wrote that letter--he might conceivably even have sent this draft. Rouault begins with mundane matters, especially the work he must do to complete a livre d'artiste, likely a project planned with Lacourière. Rouault continues with AN ORIGINAL POEM (about 14 lines, but not a sonnet in the classical sense), beginning "Je m'impose à bourlinguer sur l'océan des turpitudes et des joies picturiales." Rouault signs the letter in full with his typical "G Rouault" and then goes on with another three lines. In excellent condition. UNIQUE AND IMPORTANT.
