Descrizione
Leiden, E. J. Brill, 1887-1889. 8vo (24.0 x 16.5 cm). [iv], 206 pp.; five plates (three, mineralogical in phototype, two, malacological in tinted lithography). Half-morocco over pebbled boards. Spines with four raised, gilt-ornamented bands; compartments with gilt lines and title. = The series was started by the German-Dutch geologist, palaeontologist and director of the Geological Museum of Leiden, Johann Karl Ludwig Martin (1851-1942) and the German geologist and mineralogist Carl Ernst Arthur Wichmann (1851-1927). Parallel with this series, a much larger series on the geology of the East Indies was published. Contents in both series are palaeontological and mineralogical. This volume deals with the mineralogy of the Dutch Leeward Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao), and Dutch Guyana (now Suriname) (two papers by Kloos), and fossil molluscs from the same regions (ABC islands and Venezuela by Lorié, and Suriname by Schepman). The preface is by Martin, whose collections formed a base fore these contributions. Provenance: with a small, cancelled, stamp of the library of the Dutch geologist G. A. F. Molengraaff in the top margin of the half-title. Some very light shelf wear only. A very good copy.
