Title with portrait of Stevenson, each page in calligraphy with beautiful colored and gilt borders in imitation of a medieval manuscript, by Alberto Sangorski. 2nd impression. 11 unn. double leaves. 4to. Orig. vellum with gilt lettering on spine and front cover, two ties. London, Chatto & Windus, 1910. The calligraphy, book design, and illumination was executed by the well-known English illuminator and miniature painter Alberto Sangorski (1862-1932), who specialized in illustrating religious texts. The reproductions are by the Graphic Engraving Company. The introduction by Mrs. R.L. Stevenson is printed in red. The prayers are in black with red initials, each starting with a large illuminated initial. Stevenson (1850-1894) lived in Vailima, West Samoa, where the whole household joined each evening for a prayer session. - Sumptuous production, a fine copy.
