8vo (150x100 mm), contemporary half green leather binding, marbled paper at boards, gilt title and decorations at spine; 2 tomes bound in 1 v.; pp. 274, [2 b.], 256. A FINE COLLECTION OF TUSCAN POEMS BY VINCENZO DA FILICAIA, INCLUDING SONGS, SONNETS, COMPOSITIONS IN OCTAVES AND IN TERZINES. The text is preceded by the notice of the publisher and news about the life of Vincent of Filicaia, said Oebalo Emonio, written by Thomas Boneventuri. Vincenzo da Filicaja (1642-1707) was an Italian poet, born in Florence from an ancient and noble family. After living in Rome as an educator of the children of Cristina of Sweden, he was appointed senator by Cosimo III of Tuscany and had the government of Volterra and then Pisa. He was part of the Roman literary circle that formed the first nucleus of the Arcadia and brought in the poetry of late seventeenth century a strong need for clarity and rationality opposed to formal eccentricities of Marinists. Ref.: IT\ICCU\RAVE\038632 (7 copies). OCLC, 18788144 (1 copy in USA and 1 copy in UK). Cond.: Light traces of use to the binding, two little wormholes at bottom end-spine. Occasional foxing at leaves. Partially untrimmed front and bottom edges. Overall, a very good copy.
