First and only edition of this monograph on this little island (now part of the 9th arrondissement of Lyon) in the Saône. 32 pp. The Ile Barbe has been inhabited since ancient times, an abbey was built there in the fifth century, and Charlemage endowed it with a rich collection of manuscripts in the ninth. As mentioned on the title-page, the final pages provide a catalogue of these extremely early medieval manuscripts (22 manuscripts described.) 8vo. Original wraps. Entirely uncut, fine, and bright. Very rare, especially in such pristine condition.
