This is a very good copy in the original portfolio binding, which has some wear. The text and plates are all fresh and clean. The flexible paper-covered printed boards have some wear and faint stains. The black cloth spine has splits at the spine tips, and these have been repaired. The paper flaps protecting the plates have also been repaired. Text in German. 200 black & white plates reproduce woodcuts by a wide variety of artists from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, etc. Most plates in black & white, but a number also printed in color (tan, brown, sepia, yellow, green as well as black). A remarkable collection showing the strength and diversity of the early woodcut artists. 12 1/2" high X 9" wide, 43 text pages + 200 plates.
