His main contribution was on the social history of ancient India and on the history of Indian philosophy and literature. He fled from Hitler's Germany to Turkey because of political pressure on scientists. For a while, he taught at Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography (AÜDTCF). He was founder of Indology in Turkey.
