Title pages, numerous text pages, plates (some in chromolithography) and maps (some larger, folded). Uniform half calf over pebbled boards. Spines with four raised bands with gilt chains, two morocco labels with gilt title and volume year; publication years at spine foot. = A rare, sumptuously bound set of the most important series on marine science of the seas of Germany. With contributions by the leading marine biologists of Germany, including Meyer, Möbius, and Haeckel. Much is on plankton, but there ara also papers on benthonic animals, chiefly Radiolaria, fish, Mollusca, etc. It includes the rare start, up to volume 6, and a continuation (volumes 12-21). The five bound volumes are as follows. 1: volume 1, 1871 (published 1873); 2: volumes. 2-3, 1872-1873 (1875); 3: vols. 4-6, 1874-1876 (published 1878); 4: vols. 12-16, 1882-1886 (1887); 5: vols. 17-21. 1887-1891 (1893). Some minimal rubbing to board extremities. Library stamps on front free endpaper recto, and title pages. Otherwise very good, clean and free of foxing. An attractive set.
