About the Book:-This book, which is in the Tamil language, gives the history of Jaffna with special reference to the Tamil presence there. Tamil literature in Sri Lanka has lived, written and been read through the kingdom of Jaffna, the rule of the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British. By the time of independence, the tradition was over 600 years old. This book focuses on Tamil literature around the world, noting, with regard to Sri Lanka, "The post-Independence period has been marked in literature and civic life by nationalistic despair, euphoria, cataclysmic political and social upheaval, and by resilience." The book contains -----Landmarks in the history of Tamil literature in Sri Lanka; writing as social commentary, discussing how the Tamil perspective has observed recent events; similarities and differences across Jaffna to Batticaloa, the hill country, and other areas where Tamil literature is written in Sri Lanka.
