First edition of this oration in which Riccoboni, on behalf of the faculties of philosophy and medicine at the University of Padua, congratulates Marco Corner on his election as Bishop of Padua.
Antonio Riccoboni, known as Rodigino because he was originally from Rovigo, was a humanist, literary theorist, and prolific Aristotelian commentator. He was educated in Venice under Muretus and Sigonio. He was a professor of rhetoric at the University of Padua. In 1593, he published his Latin translation of Aristotle's Ethics. He was also a member of the important Accademia degli Animosi in Padua, of which he was one of the most ardent supporters. He became very famous in his day, so much so that Montaigne, passing through the region between 1580 and 1581, mentioned him with great praise when talking about Rovigo and Polesine in his Journal de voyage. In 1598 he published a history of the University of Padua (De gymnasio patavino) (cf. M. Venier, Riccoboni, Antonio, in: “Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani”, vol. 87, Rome, 2016).
