FIRST EDITION of one of Feijoo's most important works. 32, 207 pp. The author, the greatest Spanish polymath of the 18th century, writes about such disparate subjects as Asian emeralds, basilisks, magic and the occult, whales, etc. This book was reprinted many times throughout the 18th century, but THIS FIRST EDITION IS VERY RARE. This copy is furthermore in FIRST STATE, with the misprint in the header on p 116 ("hisroria natural"). Printed on fine laid paper. 4to. Bound in Spanish calf, worn (especially at spine) but solid. Internally FINE AND BRIGHT. A rare and important book.
