Pesth, Geologische Gesellschaft für Ungarn, 1856. 8vo (23.5 x 16.3 cm). 37 pp.; seven lithographed plates [AND] 14 pp.; one lithographed plate. Contemporary marbled boards. Handwritten labels on spine. = Two very rare papers by the Hungarian botanist and palaeontologist Julius von Kováts (1815-after 1863), contained in the first issue of the "Arbeiten der geologischen Gesellschaft für Ungarn", of which he was the editor, and secretary. He also wrote the 4 pp. introduction to the new periodical, which includes a dedication to Paul Esterházy "Protector der geologischn Gesellschaft". The plates show well-preserved leaves. In the rear a paper by Johann von Pettko on the geology of Hungary with a very large, folded, hand-coloured geological map and profile (47.5 x 39.1 cm) of western Hungary. Boards rubbed, spine cover partly perished; stamp on title page, map a bit spotted, otherwise a very good copy.
