ABOUT THE BOOK:- The aim of the book is to gauge the level of social and educational inclusion of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in the process of primary education manifested through the provisions of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, directly and indirectly. It also includes finding the strengths and lacunae regarding inclusiveness of SC and ST students along with suggesting suitable policy orientation. The right to education act 2009 is a revolutionary step towards universalization of elementary education leading to a mainstreaming of all children towards a quality and holistic learning endeavor. This book written on the basis of a major research project sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research, New Delhi provides an opportunity to delve into the various implementation issues of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, that include - admission process, no detention policy, 25 percent neighborhood admission policy, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, social relationships in the class and school, role of the school management committees as people's representation in the functioning of the school, among others. Its implementation faces many issues regarding quality, quantity as well as inclusion, especially regarding the SC and ST students. With a thorough probe of its implementation in two socio-economically contrasting districts of Maharashtra and with international reference of similar educational right acts, a more comprehensive and socially inclusive act needs be in place. This book shall be useful for Policy makers, academicians, researchers and students of Education.
