Koblenz, Karl Bädeker, 1839. 8vo (17.8 x 10.5 cm). xii, 148 pp.; three engraved plates on two folded sheets. Contemporary marbled boards. = The title roughly translates as "a new geology or brief description of the origin of the earth and the earth crust". The author, Carl Ludwig Althans (1788-1864) was a German mining officer and director of the Preussian steel works in Sayn. Front board and front free endpaper and title page detached, spine cover missing. Stamp in top margin of the title page, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Quite rare. Neither in Cat. BM(NH), nor in Ward and Carozzi.
