Edizione: the first and only printing of the edition, "limited to one printing for world distribution and the text will not be reprinted in this form."<br> a photographic facsimile and line-for-line transcription of a manuscript notebook written by joyce circa 1911-1914, at a time when he was finishing a portrait of the artist as a young man and beginning ulysses. richard ellmann, who provides the introduction, asserts that it is "a love poem which is never recited.joyce's attempt at the sentimental education of a dark lady, his farewell to a phase of his life, and at the same time his discovery of a new form of imaginitive expression." though joyce never published this little piece, he did extract pieces and phrases from it for inclusion in a portrait, ulysses, and his play exiles.
