One plate with 2 lithographed illustrations by Bryce Wilson of stone sculptures at St Magnus Cathedral. With five tipped-in manuscript facsimile pages of the four poems featured in the book in the hands of each poems author. Folio, original textured paper-covered boards, the upper with a printed Bryce Wilson illustration of St. Magnus Cathedral, backed in gilt-lettered vellum and in the green cloth-covered slipcase with pictorial label also by Bryce Wilson. Publisher's prospectus laid in. unpaginated. A pristine copy, mint and as new.
Edizione: one of only eighty-five copies for sale from a total printing of only 100 copies. printed on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the founding of the cathedral of st magnus this is an outstanding collection of four original poems written specifically in celebration of the eight and a half centuries of the cathedral in the orkney islands. each poem is presented in an exact facsimile of the poet's own handwriting followed by a printed version. the book was published to raise funds for the cathedral's restoration.<br> george mackay brown contributes an introduction to the collection and a poem, “the kirk and the ship”: the other contributors are ted hughes, “the zodiac in the shape of a crown”; seamus heaney, “in memoriam”; christopher fry, “hymn at lauds.”
