Upsalia, Typographia Academica, 1836-1838. 8vo (21.8 x 13.5 cm). xii, [ii, postscriptum], 610 pp. 19th-century half calf over marbled boards. Spine gilt-ornamented and with gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Fore-edge uncut. = The rare original edition of this important mycological work with many new species by the eminent Swedish mycologist Elias Magnus Fries (1794-1878). A nominal second edition, virtually an independent work, was published in 1874 as Hymenomycetes Europaei, but this is the taxonomically all-important first edition. Page 215 misnumbered 521. Spine rubbed at hinges, with a repeared tear, and lacking a small piece of the top; pages a bit age-toned, and with some marginal foxing, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
