Paris, Octave Doin, 1887. 8vo (24.4 x 16.2 cm). 107 pp.; five tinted, lithographed plates (one in chromolithography). Later green buckram with gilt title on the spine. Grey endpapers. Original printed front wrapper bound in. = A rarely seen work on freshwater Planaria, written and beautifully illustrated by the French embryologist and zoologist Paul Hallez (1846-1938), who was specialized in invertebrates. With a small stamp, "Hommage de l'Auteur" in the top margin of the front wrapper. Pictorial bookplate of the John Crerar Library mounted on the front pastedown (with neatly placed cancellation stamp; their perforated stamp in the front wrapper, and small stamp on plate blank versos (not shining through). Otherwise a very good, clean copy.
