Fine testimony to the understanding of learning at the end of the 18th century, by the Vienna court librarian Michael Denis (1729-1800), a fine scholar, bibliographer, poet (Sined der Barde) and entomologist. Volume I is in its second, volume II in the first edition. The work offers a systematic bibliography divided into three historical periods, and a detailed survey of the literature of all disciplines, theology, law, philosophy, medicine, mathematics, history, and philology with their subdivisions.
