Lithographed frontispiece, viii, 583 pp., 25 steel-engravings in the text, one large, folded chart in two colours. 19th-century half cloth over marbled boards. Title and vignettes printed on the spine. = Rather rare work by the Heidelberger geologist Carl Wilhelm Casimir Fuchs (1837-1886) on the earth's volcanism, geographically arranged, with a nice chart depicting the highest volcanos from the old and the new world, indicated by a different colour, showing that those of the Americas are on average much higher. This work also contains detailed information about eruptions, volcanic minerals, etc. Binding a bit weak, boards slightly rubbed, tiny former private owner's stamp in the top margin of the title page, otherwise internally a good, clean, unmarked and definitely much better than average copy. Not in Ward and Carozzi.
