Contemporary ruled half cloth over marbled boards. = The last, improved edition of a work first published in Swedish in 1820. The author, Jöns Jacob Berzelius (1779-1848) made major contributions to the determination of the atomic weight of elements, and the discoverer of the elements Cerium and Thorium. This edition has a new preface by the author, dated 1843. Some, scattered foxing, mostly marginal, more so on the half title, but with the plates clean, or only very mildly spotted. Old owner's inscription, dated 30/5 [18]70 on front free endpapeer recto; old stamp on title, otherwise a very good copy. Poggendorff I, 173.
