Descrizione

A scarce Danish edition of this classic work; originally published by the Angling Association of Copenhagen on the occasion of Isaac Walton's 350th birthday. Illustrated on plates and throughout by Ib Andersen, including a beautiful colour and silver rendering of a fish and a small bird on the retained original stiff-paper boards. Large 8vo, in a handsome modernist binding of three quarter crushed green morocco over painted paper-covered boards that are reminiscent of reeds and grasses, the spine gilt lettered and with blind decoration also stylistically mimicking organic themes, original stiff-paper printed boards retained and bound in, top page edge marbled. xxxvii, 402, [1] pp. A fine copy, internally near as pristine, the leather spine very lightly mellowed by light and with a little mottling at the tail and hinges.

Edizione: a special commemorative edition of this classic work, this fine danish printing exemplifies the universal appeal of what is considered the finest "how-to" book ever written and a core piece of english literature. the primary text was translated from the english by johanne kastor hansen; the poems were translated by otto gelsted. there is a foreword by poul hauton, and a danish translation of the author's original preliminary writings are included as well.
