Rudolph August Birminhold Sebastian Ludwig (1812-1880) was a German geologist, palaeontologist and conchologist, who travelled through Russia and the Ural mountains and published on the geology of Russia and Germany. His best known conchological work is "Fossile Conchylien der Tertiärablagerungen von Hessen und in der Rhön" (1866). A handwritten dedication (cut short) on the front wrapper. The text is rather foxed; the plates are mostly clean. Rare. Not in Ward & Carozzi.
