AN EXTREMELY RARE PORTFOLIO OF SIGNED COLOR WOODCUTS DEPICTING THE COMMON PEOPLE OF NICE (and, more generally, Eastern Provence) BETWEEN THE WARS. Brief introduction by Nicola in Niçard (or "Nissart": the dialect of Provençal spoken in Nice) with a French translation, followed by TWELVE BEAUTIFUL PENCIL-SIGNED COLOR WOODCUTS BY MARTIN AFTER BONNETERRE, printed on thick, fine wove paper, DEPICTING THE COMMON PEOPLE OF THE CITY AND THE REGION (many of these traditional jobs and costumes disappeared after World War II.) From a total edition of only 20 copies, THIS IS THE ONLY COPY OFFERED FOR SALE, justified in pencil by Martin: "Seul exemplaire mis dans le commerce." 4to. Contents loose as issued. Housed in attractive board portfolio, covered in decorated paper. Tiny traces of wear to portfolio, else FINE AND BRIGHT. WorldCat locates one copy. A wonderful item.
