A LARGE-PAPER COPY of the rare auction catalogue of the paintings and drawings of Antoine Chintreuil (1814-1873), published shortly after his death. 198 lots. WITH 50 EXTREMELY FINE ETCHINGS AFTER CHINTREUIL, MAINLY BY MARTIAL, ON CHINE APPLIQUE. 40 of these etchings were first printed in the first major monograph on Chintreuil (1874), 5 were executed for this auction catalogue, and 5 are entirely unrecorded. From an edition limited to 260 copies, this is ONE OF ONLY 30 COPIES ON FINE WHATMAN WOVE PAPER. 4to. Beautifully bound in contemporary three quarters morocco and decorated boards. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Traces of wear to extremities of binding, else FINE AND BRIGHT.
