Bonn, Emil Strauss, 1901. 8vo (24.0 x 16.3 cm). xi, 261, [ii] pp., photographic frontispiece of a Javanese female danser, four maps, 79 text engravings, several fine photographic plates. Original blue cloth with gilt title on the spine and front board. Boards with bevelled edges. Marbled edges. = Fine copy of the first edition of the well-illustrated travelogue by this famous German biologist. It includes several of Haeckel's "signature" marine invertebrate engravings. Small inscription on the front free endpaper, otherwise clean, unmarked. A near mint copy. Rare in this state.
