The "Oxford Edition". 8vo, publisher's original blue cloth, the spine gilt ruled and lettered and with gilt griffin device of the Oxford Edition at the tail of the spine, t.e.g. 377 pp. The cloth is bright and fresh and shows nearly no wear at all, hinges and textblock both firm and strong and neat, the paper is evenly toned but not foxed or spotted.
Edizione: a handsome 19th century american edition. when eliot first published adam bede, she was still unknown and the book was published in an edition of only 2100 copies. it was immediately recognized as a significant literary work, and has never since been out of print. it met with acclaim from the very beginning, and has enjoyed a very positive critical reputation ever since.
