London, [the author], 1854 [REPRINT Mergus, Germany]. (64.1 x 49.5 cm). Full colour facsimile. = A stunning, gigantic plate by the famous bird painter and ornithologist John Gould (1804-1881), depicting a bird from tropical South America, in particular Brazil but also in parts of Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia. This magnificent illustration was first published in Gould's famous A Monograph of the Ramphastidae, or Family of Toucans (1854). Dicolorus means two-coloured, and because of that, the bird is known under two contrasting English names, viz., green-billed toucan, and red-breasted toucan. This excellent reproduction is faithful to the original in every detail. An excellent, clean copy.
