Descrizione

Cape Town, South African Museum, 1927. 8vo (24.4 x 16.7 cm). 647 pp. [numbered 419-1065; 20 plates [numbered XVIII-XXXVII] with explanatory text leaves, 14 (groups of) text figures [numbered 19-32]. Near contemporary green cloth with gilt title (Annals) on the spine. = A well-illustrated monograph by the leading South African marine ichthyologist, malacologist, and Crustacea-specialist, Keppel Harcourt Barnard (1887-1964). It includes the description of several new species. The illustrations are very good. As noted in a chapter of general remarks, South Africa's position is at a "half-way house between the western and eastern oceans, and this is reflected in its fish-fauna. This is the second part of two (the first published in 1925, also in the Museum's Annals). Seldom-seen, especially outside South Africa. A very good copy.
