First Edition in English. With an elaborately engraved title-page featuring four large portraits of Pharamond, Pepin, Hugh Capet and Henry IV within a field of knights' armour and fleurs-de-lys . Folio, 12.5" x 8", handsomely bound in full contemporary speckled calf, the spine with raised bands, fully and elaborately gilt tooled within the compartments, red morocco lettering label gilt, the covers with roll-tooled decoration in blind, double fillet rules to the borders. [vi], 968, [61] Table pp. A clean, crisp and unpressed copy, the binding strong and without repairs, light age evidence, a very beautifully preserved copy.
