Small 8vo, in the publisher's original blue cloth with beveled-edged boards, the spine gilt lettered and ruled and with publisher's emblem on the upper cover in gilt, t.e.g. x, 101pp. An essentially fine copy, internally clean and fresh with no spotting at all, the blue cloth bright and unfaded and with just a touch of age evidence.

Edizione: an early printing of stevenson's beloved classic of childhood. this collection of sixty-four short rhymes and poems is considered to be one of the most influential children's works of the 19th century (britannica) and has delighted readers one generation after another. the poems, which have been widely imitated, are written from the point of view of a child. stevenson dedicated the poems to his nurse cummy (alison cunningham), who cared for him during his many childhood illnesses.
